Adventure in the hills is one of the many activities that Scouting likes to provide as an opportunity for young people across the UK. To enable them to experience this, we need adults to have the experience and skills to lead walking routes for the young people in our care.
As part of Scouting’s commitment to our adult volunteers, Bedfordshire Scouts have organised a series of adult walking weekends in the Peak District and Brecon Beacons over the course of 2013. They are particularly geared towards leaders but any adult holding a Scout appointment in Bedfordshire is welcome to take part.
The first weekend will be from 22 – 24 February in Charnwood Forest where participants will walk through forested and moorland hilly countryside with the added opportunity to see England’s oldest rocks and fossils. These features of the countryside will aid navigation with the 1:50,000 maps provided.
Any adult member of Scouting in Bedfordshire interested in taking part, should contact the County Scout office to book. Booking forms are available on bedfordshirescouts.org.uk and a holding deposit for each weekend is £10 for each participant. Overall the weekends will cost £50 each: a bargain for a weekend of training and outdoor achievement.
