Sir Garth Morrison KT CBE RN, Chief Scout of the UK 1988–1996. Gone home.

Gone homeIt has been announced by Scottish Headquarters that former Chief Scout Sir Garth Morrison KT CBE has gone home.

It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that Sir W Garth Morrison, KT, CBE, RN Honorary President of The Scottish Council The Scout Association, former Chief Scout and Lord Lieutenant of East Lothian went home earlier today.

After a brief illness, bravely borne, Sir Garth passed away in his sleep at home with his family. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Lady Jill and the rest of his family at this sad time.

said Graham Haddock, Chief Commissioner of Scotland.

Many of us will have memories of Sir Garth as Chief Scout. I remember him appearing at our Scout night in 3rd Ballymena when we had an incident in the car park – with one  Leader under the car as though knocked over. My Patrol Leader had gone to find Sir Garth at a local hotel, asked if he wanted to come to Scouts – and he did. I have never forgotten his warmth and interest in what we were doing.
